VST Software Synths: A Best Synth Option
Perhaps the best software synths on the market today exist in the form of VST instrument samples. VST software synths are actually CD quality digital recordings of live instruments. Once the instrument sound image is captured it may be played using a MIDI controller or MIDI program sequence. Notes outside of the real instrument’s normal range are possible in the digital world which opens up some interesting creative possibilities.
Most modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and sequencers support VST software synth instrument patches for both MIDI sequencing and live real time performances through played through standard MIDI connections.
Miroslav Philharmonik and the Garritan Orchestra libraries are the best VST software synths I have heard so far, but there are many others.
