Great Camera for videotapeing
This professional camera is the best.
I have owned this camera for 10 years, and I am still using it for everything except high-end professional work.
I would never consider 'retiring' it until it wears out, and considering the durablity, that will probably never happen. I anticipate using this camera as a 'B' camera on professional standard definition DV shoots when I purchase the JVC HD110 (from B+H: great people and service.)
I taught filmmaking to high school students and have produced a dozen short films for local broadcast, all with this camera. Considering that it is still on the market, the JVC X3 is probably the quickest, lowest cost entry into pro video that is still avaliable. Results are not quite as sharp as SD DV, but are acceptable in comparison, especially after transfer to DVD or non-linear editing.
It is because of this camera that I am only considering a JVC camera when I go up to HD, and this will be a choice made due to the pressures of the professional marketplace, not from getting frustrated with the camera.
