Pretty cool - will be very handy
As you probably know, one of the big problems with WiFi is that it does not penetrate water so there's no way to monitor your GoPro while shooting underwater unless you are down there with it. I've been sticking mine under the waves and tidepools on a pole, and frequently found that I'd have missed the perfect framing because I could only guess. So I researched and found this unit, and it seemed the best option.
It doesn't leak - so far so good.
It's much bigger than the standard housing, so that's a bit of a downside.
Another is that the cable is a little on the stiff side, and this affects two things: Cable wrangling topside, as it tends to want to return to a coil, so extra length becomes problematic as one is trying not to fall into the water, and also, inside the casing, the stiffness translates to a bit more stress on the HDMI port than I'd like.
Other than that, quality wise, everything is just peachy. The description does mention the fact that there is no way to control the camera. Oh well.
Can't wait to use it underwater on my boat to chase whales. Being able to monitor from above, I can turn the camera to follow the action.
I'm using it with a SmallHD DP4 for now, or I could monitor/record on my PIX220. But these both require mounting them somewhere which hampers mobility (especially on a slippery rocky shore) or that I use a hand to hold the monitor up (to my eye as a viewfinder.
The best idea, I think would be to use with video goggles. I'm sure some disorientation will take some getting used to, and special attention to safety (fall off rocks again, didja?)
