The best gimbal, but pricey
I have only a few hours on my Phantom2/Hero3 platform, but the footage I have collected is extremely good. This 2-axis (pitch and roll axes) gimbal is a must if you want steady video.
The parts are very finely machined and beautifully anodized. The bearings feel silky smooth. It uses about four different small metric screws, and DJI supplies them plus extras.
Mounting to the Phantom 2 is a bit challenging that is overcome by patience. Beware, you need two sizes of small (5 and 7, I think) Torx screwdrivers. The Phantom2 only comes with a small phillips/straight blade. So, you'll have to supply your own Torx driver. Making the task even more challenging, the installation manual is not very good.
Once the Phantom 2 powers up, the gimbal snaps to attention. You can "dolly" the whole bird perpendicular to your subject (pitch-forward/cackward) or parallel to your subject (roll-parallel panning), and the gimbal keeps the camera level despite the Phantom 2's attitude changing. You can pan your subject by rotating the whole Phantom 2 (yaw), and the gimbal will keep the camera level as it goes around with the Phantom 2.
You can also use the little lever on the bottom of the Phantom2 controller to tilt the camera up and down anywhere from slightly upward to straight down (90º down).
I plan to get a video remote feed system, but for now I just use my Hero3 wifi to feed my smartphone or tablet. It assists setting up the pitch of the camera view and also allows me to monitor the shot during flight over a range of 100' or a little more. Beyond that, I'll need that extended video feed system.
BTW, there are issues with FAA regulations about using "drones" for commercial work. Just beware of it.
In summary, this is a really finely made and operating accessory that I feel is essential if you're at all serious about your video or photography from the Phantom 2.
