The item out of the box works rather well in testing and installing it into a Phantom is really not all that tough.
While it does come with a GoPro cord that is a 3.5mm adaptor, so if you have a GroPro Hero with a USB output the connector will not work.
But don't chuck that cord, as it has the pin connector to the vTX , and yes that cable once spliced and diced on the transmitter side has red as negative and black as hot.
However, like anything over DJI level one (plug and play) this combination requires the installer to power it up as provided and note the little things, like red and black being reversed on the mini-plug to the transmitter, the pre-chop note taking before modifying the cable is quite important.
While normally in DC power, red is considered positive and black considered negative, when dealing with pin plug headers there are no real "color codes" and assuming a color means anything without confirming such is asking for a failure.
As for the GP 3 USB you can buy from B&H a USB video output cord or if you're really handy with a soldering station and have good vision you can roll your own.
For mounting the transmitter to the Phantom 3M highbond double sided tape solves that problem.
The range of the link depends on the "noise floor" of the area you are in, my tests in downtown Fort Lauderdale have shown this link, is at best 300 feet clear and then beyond that unusable.
Out in the east Everglades with a much lower noise floor I could run out to 1200 feet low to the ground without a problem, may have gone further, but losing LOS I brought it back.
Bottom line it works and works well and is worth the money.
